The Right Way To Clean Interior Shutters

Cleaning your Bluff City faux wood shutters like Polywood® is just a tad different than cleaning real wood. In most cases, there’s no wood stain that needs to be protected, and faux wood tends to be more scratch-resistant.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

• A microfiber dust cloth

• A slightly wet cloth

Using a dusting cloth, wipe over each part of your shutters to get rid of any dust or dirt. For bigger smudges or messes, use a slightly damp cloth to wipe them down. Again, stay away from any chemical compounds or any abrasive cleaners.

A slightly wet cloth is fine to use to clean faux wood shutters, but it’s always good to dry the shutter when you’re done. 

When you clean real wood shutters, be sure to take special care not to do anything overly abrasive that could impact the wood finish or expose the wood to moisture.

You’ll want these supplies to clean your shutters:

• A dust cloth (microfiber works best)

• A soft, dry cloth

To clean the dust off of wood shutters, all you’ll need to do is give the frame and louvers a quick wipe-down with a dusting cloth.

For cleaning smudges, try rubbing first with a dry cloth. You usually shouldn’t use a damp cloth unless it’s completely necessary, and even then, the less wet the cloth, the better. Only do this for the affected area – don’t wipe down the entire frame with it. If you use a damp cloth, be sure to follow up with a dry cloth. Also, don’t ever use a caustic chemical agent, or you could risk damaging the wood finish.
